Description

Centre for Health Economics in London - Guest Lecture

Universal Health Coverage poses a major fiscal challenge for rich and poor countries alike. However, achieving this target worldwide was set as Sustainable Development Goal 3.8, agreed upon by all world governments in New York at the UNGA in 2015. It falls under the larger umbrella of SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

To achieve this, solutions will be needed both to limit the costs of healthcare delivery and to ensure equitable financing. In a one-off lecture at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Professor Jeffrey Sachs will discuss both the cost and financing dimensions of achieving universal health coverage at all levels of national income, followed by an opportunity for audience questions.

Professor Sachs is a world renowned economist and author of The End of Poverty (2005) and Building the New American Economy: Smart, Fair & Sustainable (2017). He is the Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, and special adviser to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres on the Sustainable Development Goals.
